Eye Health

Understanding your condition is the first step. Here you will find clear, straightforward information on common eye and eyelid conditions.

Chalazion

A chalazion is a painless lump on the eyelid caused by a blocked oil gland. Most resolve with warm compresses and lid hygiene. Persistent or large chalazia may require a minor procedure (incision and curettage) under local anaesthetic.

Watery Eyes

Tearing can result from overproduction of tears (reflex tearing) or poor drainage (blocked tear duct). A thorough assessment determines the cause. Treatment ranges from lubricants to endoscopic DCR surgery for blocked ducts.

Drooping Eyelids (Ptosis)

Ptosis is a drooping of the upper eyelid that can affect vision and appearance. It may be present from birth (congenital) or develop later in life (acquired). Surgical correction restores both function and symmetry.

Eyelid Lumps & Lesions

Lumps on or around the eyelids are common and usually benign. However, any new or changing lesion should be assessed to exclude skin cancer. Early detection and treatment lead to the best outcomes.

Thyroid Eye Disease

An autoimmune condition associated with thyroid dysfunction that can cause bulging eyes, double vision, eyelid retraction, and in severe cases, vision loss. Requires specialist multidisciplinary management.

Cataracts

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. Symptoms include blurred vision, glare, and difficulty reading. Modern cataract surgery is safe, quick, and highly effective at restoring clear vision.

Dry Eye

Dry eye is a common condition where the eyes do not produce enough tears or the tears evaporate too quickly. Symptoms include grittiness, burning, and paradoxically, watering. Management includes lubricants, lid hygiene, and addressing underlying causes.

Sun Protection & the Eyes

UV exposure contributes to cataracts, eyelid skin cancer, and surface damage. Wearing UV-protective sunglasses and applying sunscreen to the periocular area are simple, effective preventive measures.
